Airbnb: Rome//Florence//Paris

As most of you guys know from our Instagram, bohoJC and I, just got back from Europe. This time around I booked almost all of our lodging through Airbnb. I have always been a little leery of these sites in the past, but I tried VRBO last year in Paris and could not have been more pleased on how it turned out. Plus, it comes equipped with one of the most knowledgeable/organized/clean hosts you could ever ask for, Patrick. He has several listings within the building if you need a smaller or larger place. Did I mention Colette is literally your next door neighbor? HOLLLLAAAAA!!!

I would have booked it this year, but turns out I'm not the only one scouting out all the available apartments in the first arrondissement.

We stayed 1 or 2 blocks away from The Spanish Steps, would highly recommend this area. It was the most centralized hub and was super close to many high end restaurants/boutiques, we'll touch more on that later. Back to the apartment, again it came with a super gracious host. Who not only arranged almost all of our transportation (from the airport, to the train station when traveling from city to city), but also was available to meet us at 7:00 in the morning. She was great! We seriously could not have done it without her.

We didn't have too much time in Florence, but overall it was probably my favorite apartment out of the 3. Super roomy, could definitely fit 1 large family or 2 small families, and was just way cool. From the wall papered ceilings to the geometric kitchen, it was definitely a great find. It also, was in a great location. You are just blocks away from the Duomo and an amazing all organic gelato shop, Gelateria Edoardo, that will bring you to your knees it's so good.

This apartment had a whole lot to prove coming from 2 really great apartments prior. It was located right in the heart of Saint Germain, walking distance from Cafe de Flore (who our favorite Song of Style is often spotted) or Cafe Les Deux Margot just right next door. Had an amazing chocolate shop right out your front door, they truly saw chocolate as an art. It was beautiful.

See Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix

Rolling Stone recently released another clip of the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side and it has me beyond excited to see the film!!  It debuts this week at South by Southwest, if anyone has an extra ticket I'm free.  Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) plays Jimi, and in these clips his voice and dialect are jarring, as is his charisma and humility.  He has brought Jimi Hendrix back to life.

The film did not get the rights to Hendrix's songs so it won't feature any music written by him.  Instead it tells the story of his life throughout 1966-1967, being discovered as a backup musician and moving to London where he formed the Experience.  It still doesn't seem to have an official release date (some say June) but you can bet your bohoHendrixLover will keep you posted!

This first clip sees Hendrix having a heart-to-heart with Linda Keith, discussing how both Jimi and Keith Richards had written songs for her.

"I've got all these men writing songs for me, then I go home and I listen to them alone," she admits.  I can think of a lot worse things to do when home alone Linda.

The second is Jimi discussing moving to London with his future manager Chas Chandler. Which we know he does, and eventually comes back to the USA as the Jimi Hendrix we know today.

I really really hope the film is as good as I want it to be, either way the clips have me
convinced Andre 3000 has nailed Hendrix and his sweet soft demeanor.  And if the movie paints the portrait of Hendrix as he was "on the verge of becoming a rock legend" ....well I'm just so excited there is finally a Jimi Hendrix film.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony by bohoJoe for 002 Magazine

My bohoBestie Carla invited us to interview Bone Thugs-N-Harmony a few weeks ago.  It just so happens that my brother is a big fan, huge fan, slightly obsessed fan.  I asked him to handle the interview, and he killed it. He had questions that caught them off guard, the banter back and forth was funny and flowed, they even asked us to come hang after the show!  He is now our go-to for all gangsta rap interviews, so bring em on!

Q&A with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

By: Joe Salinas

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was just in town for their Texas Takeover Tour, if you missed it, I feel for ya.  Not only did I go to the show, but I interviewed them.  I’m not a writer, I’m not a blogger, I am a diehard Bone Thugs fan and well my sister Sarah did it again…

To set the table properly for this I have to start by pointing out something a lot of you already know.  My sister BohoSarah lives her life with an energy and charisma that rubs off on you, makes you feel a bit stronger, it’s contagious.

Every once in a while her charisma means people invite her to do things like interview Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.  And she calls you saying “Will you interview Bone Thugs for me?” seems legit, but it still took a full day to sink in that I would be in the same room with Bone Thugs.  This is the group I listened to repeatedly starting in 1996, I was 14 and my sister had to convince my parents that a song about “glocks” and “bloody victims” was OK.  I’ve never stopped listening to them and you can hear Bone Thugs in every hip hop song you listen to today.  Hardcore rap with a melody, they were the first.

So here is my interview, it was surreal and incredible.  I got to ask about Eazy-E and the beginning, where they are now and even got some advice for the Houston Texans...kind of.  With some friendly jabber in between, these guys kicked back and had a great time with us.  They even invited us back after the show; well maybe just my girlfriend but whatever.   I didn't think it was possible to be a bigger fan and then I walked in a small smoky room and this happened.

Is it true you guys got your break by calling Eazy-E from a payphone and free styling into his voicemail?
Wish Bone:  He actually was on the other end.  Flesh-N-Bone: It was a friend’s phone, we called him up and we actually made several calls to his office and was able to get in contact with his secretary.  She promised that she would get us in touch with him…she was a doll, she kept true to her word and when Eazy-E was back in the office she made his ass get on the phone and take our calls.

Did you guys just know “I gotta get this guy on the phone” or how did that relationship develop?
Flesh-N-Bone: Well we didn’t really know it was going to happen because we had dealt with people before that were like “ok we are gonna do this, we gonna do that”.  We didn’t know Eazy-E was going to be the type of business man that seriously earned that shit.  As a businessman he set himself apart from all the other cats that were full of shit.

What do you think Eazy-E on social media would be like? Wouldn’t that be something?
Bizzy Bone: Yes it would, his son looks just like him and is in the business, I think he would be running the company at this time.  We retired at a successful era and just now decided to come back and do something together, but if he was here it would still be rock ‘n rolling and it would be crazier though because he was innovative.  He was into video games before they came out; he was about blasé and beautiful stuff.  Flesh-N-Bone: He would have millions of followers because he was he was a marketing genius and would have smashed social media.  He already understood how to get to the masses and promote.

Did everyone have the same switch at the same time from doing an album like Faces of Death to coming out with “Crossroads” where you rap about praying every day?
Bizzy Bone: It was kind of the same concept whether you’re thinking about hell or thinking about heaven.  You’re not afraid.  So when we got to Eazy he knew how to organize it and put it together.  Put it together for the masses and it became like a battle cry, like our warriors going to war overseas.  They don’t have drums no more; we got that shit right here for you - Ipod.

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, yall should be in it.
Bizzy Bone:  Thanks man, 4 more years, it’s the voting system however it goes.  We’ll get more into it as it gets closer.

I know you guys are sports fans; you know what else we have in common?  Both of our football teams suck.  If you had first pick in the draft who would you take?
CrazyBone: ahhhh man .
A mobile quarterback?
Crazy Bone: A mobile quarterback.
My man, he just said Johnny Manziel.

Who would you say is responsible for putting Houston rap on the map? Flesh-N-Bone:  J Prince.  Bizzy Bone:  Dayum!  Flesh-N-Bone:  That motherfucker’s the man.

HAPPY FAT TUESDAY!

non-FAT TUESDAY

It may seem like winter will never end, but bikini season is right around the corner. Don’t panic when your first pool party invitation sneaks in and you haven’t lost those extra winter pounds. START NOW! Below is our first tip in helping you to stay svelte and strong!

Tip #1: IMPROVE YOUR POSTURE
Without doing any ab exercises, you can look (and feel!) much leaner by simply standing up straight.

When you slouch, your stomach pooches. Try it.
SOLUTION: Draw your belly button into your spine and, using the balls and heels of your feet, push on the floor to distribute your weight and find balance. Don’t leave it all up to your poor back to support you! Remember this same rule when you are sitting. Push on the floor to help keep your body in line. This will give you an entirely new meaning to ‘staying grounded’ and your posture will improve instantly. It will take practice, but soon enough it will become second-nature. When you have good posture, your energy level improves and your lung capacity increases making you open and more awake.
