Houston Saturday Night // The Moonlight Dolls

Need something awesomely cool, unique, sexy, fun, feminine, empowering, amazing, lovely, beautiful, entertaining, provocative, fascinating, classic, enchanting, enthralling, inspiring and absolutely splendid to do on your Saturday nights?

I got some thing for ya...

Oh stop it... No, it's not me.

I'll give you a hint...

Three words (Well 2.5, one is hyphenated.) ... Four syllables ....

Lots of music...

Beautiful ladies...

Booze...
(Oh now you perked up! Ya big drunk.)

You're getting close...

Pop-Up Burlesque!

Although the new Prohibition is still under construction, we have not slowed down. The Dolls have been killing it in this tiny underground production. And the costumes... oh the costumes! The Dolls' costumer aka The Wardrobe Mistress deserves a blog post of her own. That will be next week! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, here are some photos of The Moonlight Dolls performances at Pop-Up Burlesque.

ENJOY!

The Moonlight Dolls Under Fire

The only photo I could find of a Moonlight Doll under fire was Kitty Kitty Bang Bang. And she makes it look really easy.
Of course.

I. CANNOT. WAIT. UNTIL. WE. ARE. OPEN.

I know that when things start to get tough, God has something SUPER special in store. We are holding on and plugging away each day for what HAS to be-what MUST be-a spectacular reward!!

To all of you out there struggling with something, just hang in there and don't kill anyone. Do right and be happy even when you want to throw a tantrum. Force yourself to stay calm and stay on track. Good things will surely come to you when you show God that you believe in Him and the journey he has set you on. Just try not to lose your mind in the meantime. If you feel crazy, then you're doing it right.

Soft Opening of The Moonlight Dolls Studio & Art of Burlesque Menagerie

If you're in Houston this Friday come check out The Moonlight Dolls Studio! We'll be serving cocktails & hors d'oeuvres while introducing the 2014 Moonlight Dolls! Also, you can check out exactly what we are doing with this cool space! On top of it being a beautiful rehearsal facility for The Moonlight Dolls and other traveling performers, it will be a burlesque menagerie (that's a sexy word for museum) where you can browse photos and read histories of big-named burlesque stars. We'll also be holding burlesque fitness classes, workshops and private parties lead by The Moonlight Dolls! Can you say girls night?!?! OH! You might see a performance by one of The Dolls as well, but you didn't hear that from me.

This new venue has brought on an entirely new mission for The Moonlight Dolls: To elevate burlesque as a true form of art. In addition to focusing on the class and beauty of these performers, we want to bring the comedy back too! Did you know the word burlesque is derived from the Italian word 'burla' which means joke or mockery? If you knew that already, then gold star for you. If you didn't, then hopefully I've set you on a journey of burlesque enlightenment where you can begin to see past the raunchy reputation that burlesque has taken on over the years. We want to bring back the art of burlesque through ornate costumes and creative productions. I hope you'll come take a sneak peek into our studio and see what we're all about.

HOUSTON - The Moonlight Dolls have announced that they will be throwing a soft opening party on Friday, January 31, 2014 in their new studio space located at 1000 Prairie in downtown Houston.

For the past two years, The Moonlight Dolls have performed weekly shows at Prohibition Craft of Cocktails. Formerly located in the Galleria, Prohibition and The Moonlight Dolls have relocated to Houston's revitalized Historic District.

"It's an exciting move for The Moonlight Dolls. With a grandiose stage and historic venue, we are positioned to make Prohibition an actual landmark. We can properly execute the company's mission to elevate burlesque as a true art form," says Lian Nguyen, managing partner of The Moonlight Dolls.

In line with this initiative, the new studio, appropriately named The Art of Burlesque, will be a hub for traveling burlesque and vaudeville performers from around the globe to teach workshops, rehearsals and private lessons.
Showcasing historic photos, costumes and biographies of past and present big-named burlesque stars, the studio will be a mini-museum where visitors can travel through time as they learn about the evolution of burlesque.

"The meaning of burlesque has been diluted over the years. We hope to teach our audience a bit more about its origination and then astound them with an amazing show," says Grace Salinas, manager of The Moonlight Dolls.

In addition, the studio will serve as a rehearsal space and classroom where The Moonlight Dolls will lead weekly burlesque fitness classes and workshops open to everyone.

The Moonlight Dolls Studio // So Much to Celebrate!

I have been in hiding for the last month, preparing for Prohibition's big move to its new downtown location. I get to be a downtown girl! It'll be just like my days walking the streets of charming Paris: Mom N Pop grocers, delightful restaurants and casual conversations with eccentric folks who can only be found in a city's centre.

Thinking of the cleaning and unpacking we have to do makes me want to take a nap  but still, we have so much to celebrate. In the midst of the madness, I've made a point to stop this holiday season and thank my lucky stars to be part of something so great. Aside from The Moonlight Dolls' production, Prohibition has had the opportunity to entertain Houston through its private events. Ever heard of pop-up burlesque?!

Oh! And restaurant life is crazy in case you guys didn't know! bohoJacy, can I get an AMEN?!?!  The madness that ensues all for the purpose of getting that perfect plate of food in front of the customer is mind-boggling, but oh so rewarding!  Now throw a full burlesque production into the mix and watch things get really interesting!

Still, the growth and transition has been a very positive experience. Even though some of us would like to punch each other in the face daily, we have made great leaps and bounds as a team. At the end of the day we are like family. An incredibly dysfunctional family. But one thing is for certain, we put the 'fun' in dysfunctional!

The owner's of Prohibition, Anh Mai and Lian Nguyen, are true inspirations. With tenacity and perseverance they have pursued their idea and to say it's come into fruition would be an understatement. I'm doing my best to earn my keep so that I can continue being part of an American dream in this great city! Get ready Houston, let us entertain you!

The Moonlight Dolls have been a staple at craft cocktail bar and upscale restaurant, Prohibition for over two years. Recently, The Moonlight Dolls have announced their decision to continue weekly performances at what will be the newly renovated Prohibition, located at 1008 Prairie in revitalized downtown Houston. The Moonlight Dolls have adopted the space at 1000 Prairie to serve as their official dance studio. In addition to regular rehearsals, the space will be used for burlesque workshops, fitness classes, and merchandising, including a newly developed, prime makeup line.

The Moonlight Dolls will be holding their 2014 audition for burlesque dancers and specialty performers on January 4th, 5th & 12th at The Moonlight Doll Studio. Details at www.themoonlightdolls.com.
